Young adult fiction has exploded in popularity over the last few years thanks to books such as The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns, The Hunger Games, and Divergent. Julie Butler has now joined the ranks of young adult fiction authors with her debut work, Paper Girl. Julie and her husband, Josh, live in the Nashville area with their two teenage daughters. Julie is no stranger to creative endeavors. Over the years, she has performed as a singer/songwriter and community theater actress in the Nashville area. She is also a photographer. The creative spirit runs deep in her family, and her daughter, Devon, dances competitively.
Julie faces a challenge that is common among working parents – regaining some time and creative accomplishment for herself. In 2012, Julie was working on three projects, writing only a few times a month casually, and attending writing workshops. Although she had no trouble with the creative aspect of writing, she was frustrated by the lack of a completed project. She decided to buckle down and set some tangible writing goals in order to finish her novel, Paper Girl. Julie carved out time to write in the early morning hours before going to work at her job as a corporate trainer. She also wrote on weekends and often sat with her laptop in the audience at dance competitions working on the book while her daughter was not on stage.
